GMail 2.0 on it’s way?

If you follow news in the tech world, you’ve probably already seen the ZDNet story about GMail 2.0. A lot of people, myself included, are incredibly excited about the possibility. GMail has been stagnating far too long, when other apps inside Google ( such as Docs and Spreadsheets ) are getting shiny new looks. Ioannus de Verani has even gone as far as making a full mock-up of GMail using the new look, and I love it!

Like so many others, I was excitedly waiting in line for my invite when GMail was first in Beta. The interface was fresh, the design was clean and simple and it did things that no other webmail service could dream of. Unfortunately, there it has stayed for the past three years, whilst the competition leap ahead (here’s looking at you, Yahoo!). I had long since left GMail in favour of Mail.app on my Mac, but since I now work in the locked-down Windows desktop hell that is the enterprise, I’ve had to return, it has been tough! I miss the simple things, drag and drop is my friend, I want smart folders ( hell, any folders would be nice! ) – but more than anything, I want the Google innovation back.
